The Merrill Big Z Long Shank Allaround with Hinge Port Mouthpiece is built for horses and riders who need maximum lift, balance, and clear authority. The long shank offers increased leverage, helping keep a horse upright, elevated in the shoulders, and free from dropping into the turn—while still maintaining a smooth, consistent feel. The hinge port mouthpiece provides valuable tongue relief while directing pressure to the bars and palate, encouraging softness and a more collected frame. Because the hinge keeps the port straighter in the mouth—similar to a mullen—it delivers stability without sacrificing lift, making it ideal for stronger or more ratey horses that need clearer direction. This bit is a favorite for riders who need refinement at speed, improved rate, or more precise control during high-pressure runs.
